Kris Goodie is a portrait painter and multidisciplinary artist based in Vallejo, California. Specializing in watercolor and photography, Goodie creates intimate, emotionally resonant portraits that center the lives and experiences of the LGBTQ+ community. Drawing from photographic references, their work explores themes of identity, resilience, and belonging through a muted color palette, delicate brushwork, and a unique blend of washes and drybrush.
Raised in Alaska and shaped by both the stark natural environment and a conservative social climate, Goodie’s journey as a transgender artist deeply informs their creative practice. Their paintings honor the strength and beauty of queer and trans individuals, creating space for reflection and empathy while challenging dominant cultural narratives. Influenced by the realism of Andrew Wyeth, Goodie’s portraits emphasize authenticity and vulnerability.
In 2023, they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley, where they received the Wendy Sussman Award. Their work has been exhibited across Northern California, including the 120710 Art Gallery in Berkeley. Goodie is currently developing a portrait series featuring transgender and queer individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Valley.
